was enacted in 1991 by the legislature of the State of New Mexico. The bill was introduced by Senator Carlos R. Cisneros, Senator Roman Maes, Senator Mary Jane M. Garcia, Senator Gloria Howes, and Senator Shannon Robinson. The mission for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission is to promote cultural awareness and human rights through Dr. King's life philosophy and six principles of nonviolent social action of nonviolent social action to all people
MLK TOUR 2008
NEW MEXICO MLK STATE COMMISSION 2008 TOUR
The first place winners of the Youth Conference’s Talent Show, Essay Contest and Art Contest have been selected to attend the 2008 Leadership Tour. Each year, the first place winners of the conference get a chance to go to see many historical sites in Atlanta, GA and Memphis, TN. They visit the King Center, Dr. King’s birth home and where he preached. They also get a chance to visit Graceland, Stone Mountain, Slave Haven, Mud Island River Park and the National Civil Rights Museum.
